Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray- key) is a Japanese energy based alternative therapy. Reiki, roughly translated, means universal life force energy.

Reiki is an invisible gentle energy that works by balancing a persons’ energy system, promoting the body’s own natural ability to heal on all levels; mental, emotional, physical & spiritual. Anyone regardless of age, race, sex or religious beliefs can benefit from Reiki.

The original Reiki system was founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900’s. The system focused almost entirely on healing and developing oneself. As it has evolved in the West, it has become more focused on treating others.

Reiki Treatments

Reiki treatments are 1 hour.

The client remains fully clothed, removing shoes and any restrictive items of clothing or jewellery. The client lies on the treatment couch on their back. In some cases, where there is an issue with the back, clients may have the treatment face down. It is also possible to carry out treatments in a seated position if the client is unable to or has difficulties lying down.

The Reiki practitioner moves through a series of hand positions, starting on the shoulders and finishing at the feet. Some hand positions are held slightly away from the body, others are hands on, depending on what is appropriate- (for example; hands are never placed directly on the face, on a woman’s breasts or on the genitals), and what is going to be most comfortable for the client.

The Client Experience

What a client experiences can vary from treatment to treatment, depending on what is going on for them on any given day. The most common sensations clients experience includefeelings of warmth or heat, waves of energy rushing through the body, tingling, visualisations, including seeing lots of colours. Some people can experience an emotional release in the form of tears or laughter. There are clients whom have none of these experiences, yet still leave the session with a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. Over a course of treatments clients may experience a significant reduction or disappearance of symptoms, some experience deep emotional shifts. Others simply use it as a means of managing stress and relieving the tensions of day to day life, a way of creating ‘me’ time.

Reiki Drum Treatments

This is a standard 1 hour Reiki treatment with drumming added, the drumming does not continue throughout the treatment, just in part, used intuitively by the practitioner. Drumming for healing and meditation is an ancient practice. Modern research has proven that brain activity can actually be affected by drumming. Used as part of a reiki treatment the drumming helps to induce the brains Alpha state - the state we go into during meditation, which greatly reduces stress and brings deep relaxation. The deep resonance of the drumming through the body also has its own healing.

Reiki Drum Journey Process

This process is excellent for anyone who feels really stuck with a particular issue or life situation, or simply just does not know what to do next, or who just wants to explore. To begin the process I help the client define the issue and from that, create a very clear intention as to what they are journeying for. A journey, is essentially a deep meditative or trance state, which enables the client to access a 'non ordinary reality' - this in itself is open to interpretation and would be influenced by personal beliefs. For example, for some this may mean the  sub-conscious mind, for others, the spirit realm. The purpose of the journey is to return with the information you require in relation to the intention you set at the start of the session. A complete session is 1 hour long.

How much are the sessions?

All Reiki Treatments last 1 hour and are £55 per session. Sessions are booked and paid for in advance.
