Counselling

The human experience is often characterised by moments of joy, excitement, and wonder, but it can also be unpredictable, challenging, and overwhelming. At times, we all need support to navigate the complexities of life and gain a deeper understanding of ourselves - our motivations, behaviours, and reactions to the world and the situations we encounter.

I believe that you, as the client, are the expert on your own life. My role is to support and assist you to uncover, explore, and release what is needed to achieve the best possible outcome in the present.

Taking that initial step to seek help can often feel like the most difficult part of the process. While the journey of counselling can be challenging and at times uncomfortable, it can also be immensely liberating and rewarding.

How I work

My approach is holistic (works with the whole person, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual). Integrative (draws on different modalities) and is led by the needs of the client (you!). My practice is informed by professional training and experience as well as lived experience.

I strongly believe in the mind-body connection and that the body holds its own wisdom and gives us information.  In practice this means our work together is very likely to contain suggestions for things like breathing & relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices and a somatic approach (what is happening in the body). I believe this can support you with nervous system regulation and creating a sense of safety in your own body. This can be particularly helpful when working with anxiety, stress and trauma symptoms. You will always have the choice to say no to anything I suggest.

Our work together will be led by what you bring to session each week and I will hold in mind your bigger goals & intentions for what you have said you want to achieve from your counselling sessions. We will review how the work is going for you, together, regularly and discuss what is working, what is not and if a change of direction or focus is needed.

We work in a way that feels safe for you and where you will be met without judgement.

I may share psychotherapeutic educational information or suggest ‘homework’ with you as part work of our work together.  I won’t use jargon or unnecessary therapeutic language.

Main issues I work with:

  • - Addiction

  • - Anxiety

  • - Bereavement & Loss

  • - General wellbeing

  • - Life transitions

    - Nature based therapeutic working

  • - Relationship Issues

  • - Separation & Divorce

  • - Stress

  • - Self exploration

  • - Spirituality

  • - Trauma

How do you know if I am the right counsellor for you?

Working your way through the many styles of therapy and therapists can been daunting and confusing!

I offer a free 15 minute introductory call so we can discuss what you currently need and if I am the best therapist for you. I may sign post you elsewhere If I believe another therapist or organisation could better support you.

If we decide to work together, we will discuss frequency, cost and location and will book an initial assessment session which is £75.

How long is a session and how much does it cost?

Cost: £75 per session. (I do offer a number of lower cost places in my practice, however these are dependent on availability and may be subject to a waiting list). This can be discussed on our introductory call.

Frequency: Counselling sessions are weekly, unless we agree otherwise, and they last for 50 minutes. We will meet in the same place at the same time/day every week, until our work comes to an end.

I offer short term, long-term and open-ended therapy (from one off sessions to multiple years). I work with any adults over 18.

Do I need to have a session in person or can I book via zoom?

The sessions are either in person in North London or online via zoom. After our initial call details will be provided.

Locations: In person from Whetstone High Road, N20, Barnet Therapy Rooms, EN5, Hertford SG14 or Trent Park Cockfosters EN4.
(Full details given once we have agreed to work together.)

Walk and talk sessions are in person and are 50 minutes long. They tend to work well for people who, for various reasons, may find sitting in a room for 50 minutes difficult. These sessions happen in nature spaces (local parks) in EN4 & N20 areas.
